As a child I lived in eastern North Carolina amidst tobacco country. My mother died when I was young and I lived with an older aunt and uncle. Unlike the farms around us growing tobacco, my aunt produced flowers for local florists. I vividly remember walking though color fields of purple, yellow and every imaginable color. Later I attended music school and worked professionally in church music, performed as a soloist with the Raleigh Oratorio Society and directed children’s choirs. In 1982 I began to take painting classes and in 1991 re-entered college as an art student.

During this time as I studied art history, I was greatly influenced by the color field painters and abstract expressionist. My early years-experiencing color on a daily basis connects me to these styles of painting. I became intrigued with the psychology of color and how it influences emotional responses. I have been felting for 20 years and have used felt exclusively as my primary medium since 1999. I received a United Arts Regional Grant in 1999, was juried into Artspace in 2000, Piedmont Craftsmen in 2004 and Carolina Designer Craftsmen in 2005. My future goal is to continue to experiment with color and develop new and innovative techniques in felt making.
